Adela A. González

Adela A. González, 99, departed this world on May 22nd. She peacefully passed away in La Quinta, California of natural causes while surrounded by family.

Adela Álvarez Benítez was born in Culiacancito, a small ranchería in the state of Sinaloa, México on December 16th, 1925. She grew up in Culiacán, the state capital, before moving to the ranchería of La Nanchita when she married Raúl González.

Adela lived in La Nanchita, Sinaloa in the 1940's with her husband, she was a housewife focusing on rearing her children. She dreamed of coming to the United States to work and improve her way of life; in the early fifties, she relocated to Mexicali, México and eventually came to Indio California where she worked at Cal Date Packing Shed. Some years later, Adela migrated to the San Joaquin Valley where she worked with her husband and children in the fields picking fruits and vegetables. She later worked for a food processing company in Visalia, California. Adela retired and eventually returned to the Coachella Valley in the early 90's and lived in Coachella until her passing.

Adela is preceded in death by her parents Wenceslao Álvarez and Manuela Benítez and her brothers and sisters: Reymundo Álvarez Benítez, Jesús Álvarez Benítez, Cecilia Álvarez Benítez, Marina Álvarez Benítez, Natividad Álvarez Benítez, Mariano Álvarez Benítez, and her daughter Martha Josefina Desnoyers. She leaves behind her children: María Elena Andrews, Eva Linville, Manuel Jarvis-Martínez, Geraldine González,  and Wilfred G. González; Grandchildren: Teresa J. Domínguez, Mark A. Zehrung, Maurice C. Gardner Jr., Martha Stithem, Frank Barboza III, Jared Barboza, Elizabeth D. Gaylor, Kendric J. Rodríguez, Aliah A. Terry, Nathan O. Dowdy, Dorian M. Jarvis, Eric Taylor, Tim Taylor, Jevaun González, Devin M. Gonzalez and John D. González; great grandchildren: Monique J. Domínguez, Demitri C. Zehrung, Julian C. Zehrung, Andrew Stithem, Matthew Stithem, Katherine Stithem, Frank Barboza IV, Brianna Barboza;  Natasha Crum, Logan Gaylor, Austin Gaylor, Jonathan Rodríguez, Tiana Rodríguez, Kyalei Williams, Justin Terry, Octavian Dowdy, Reo Dowdy, Aveana Dowdy, Soumaya G. Jarvis, Ella Taylor, and Auna Taylor; great-great grandchildren; Faith Crum, Nicole Crum, Mason Crum, Michael Crum, Easton Rodríguez, Joshua Gaylor, Georgia Gaylor, Phinehas Gaylor and Willow Gaylor.

Services will be held at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help in Indio, California on the 5th of June, viewing at 11:00 am and mass at 1:00 pm. The Celebration of Life will take place at the Masonic Lodge located at 51-100 Jackson St. Coachella at 2:15 pm. Casillas Funeral Home in Coachella is entrusted with arrangements.
